Warner Bros. presenterade under CinemaCon en första bild på Margot Robbie som den ikoniska dockan som kommer till liv i biofilmen Barbie. Produktionen drog igång tidigare i år i London och bland övriga Hollywoodstjärnor märks Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera och Will Ferrell.
Den som ger den populära dockan liv är regissören Greta Gerwig (Unga Kvinnor), som också skrivit manus tillsammans med sin man, manusförfattaren Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale). Producerar gör bolagen Mattel Films och Warner Bros.
“Barbie comes with a lot of baggage … and a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that comes a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t.’”

Då Barbie är Mattels stjärndocka så hänger en hel del på hur denna filmen tas emot, men klart är att det är redan flera filmer i förproduktion av deras kända produkter. I en nära framtid kan vi alltså få uppleva biofilmer med Hot Wheels, Masters of the Universe, Polly Pocket, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots och dockorna Chatty Cathy och Betsy Wetsy.
