Universal dukar upp till våldsam vikingafest och på menyn står inte bara Alexander Skarsgård och Nicole Kidman. Efter över 20 år återvänder den isländska sångerskan Björk till filmens magiska värld.

Regissören för The Northman är Robert Eggers och detta blir hans tredje långfilm och filmningen på Irland gick i mål i slutet av 2020. Eggers två tidigare filmer är rysliga The Witch och psykologiska The Lighthouse.
Filmen beskrivs som en hämnarthriller och handlar om en vikingaprins (Alexander Skarsgård) som vill hämnas mordet på sin far.

I rollerna Alexander Skarsgård (Legenden om Tarzan), Anya Taylor-Joy (The New Mutants), Nicole Kidman (Aquaman), Ethan Hawke (Stockholm), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Ralph Ineson (The Green Knight) och Björk (Dancer in the Dark).
Skådespelaren Ralph Ineson är snart aktuell som the Green Knight och var med i Eggers The Witch.

Han fortsätter med att biopubliken kommer inte känna igen Skarsgård, som tränat oerhört hårt för att bygga upp muskler inför denna roll.
”Alexander Skarsgård looks like an absolute beast. There’s a scene where he beats this guy in a battle; bends down and rips his throat out with his teeth, screams to the gods and he’s got his shirt off – and you think: My god that’s not a bodybuilder doing a scene, that’s like a proper serious actor! He’s made himself look like some kind of monster for the part, the dedication’s incredible. I think it will be a bit of a masterpiece, to be honest.”

Alexander Skarsgård förklarar sin motivering till träningen också berodde en hel del på covid-19 och lockdown. Fanns inte så mycket att göra mer än att dedikerat träna och vänta på att få jobba.
“It’s a very physical role, so I had to keep working out. I was still in work mode for the whole lockdown. Then in July, we started shooting till the end of the year. I was very grateful to be able to work. It was definitely different from the normal set because we were completely isolated. We got tested three times a week and I basically lived in a bubble up in the hills of Northern Ireland and didn’t see anyone, didn’t do anything for six months other than work and sleep and train… It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. The most amazing experience.”

Nicole Kidman och Ethan Hawke spelar föräldrarna till Skarsgårds vikingaprins. Men den som får oss att höja mest på ögonbrynen är återkomsten till bioduken för Björk. Hon återvänder efter 20 år till en roll som häxa.
